Wordpress 2.7 beta 1 was released by Automattic and available for download. Developers of Wordpress are bringing in a design for the administration dashboard, most of which are ready on the beta 1. The design is almost completeled, with the exception of a few areas. They will also be adding new icons to most sections of WordPress, to cheer things up a bit. Wordpress 2.7 beta 1 works perfectly with Firefox and Safari, but support for other browsers is patchy.

I installed WordPress on my computer (PC), and took the new dashboard out for a spin. You can read our tutorial on installing WordPress in Windows, or view a video of the installation process.

Below are some screenshots of the new dashboard:

The new dashboard tries to streamline your activities and even has a posting section titled “QuickPress” within the starting page of dashboard. The overall look is sleek and a bit Mac OS X style.

The final version, which was scheduled on November 10, will arrive at the end of November. There will probably be a release candidate on November 10, which, barring serious bugs, will be the final version too.
