When I installed Windows Vista, one of the first minor irritants was that the power button in start menu would only put the computer to sleep. However, a simple tweak within Power Options (from Control Panel) can help you set the power button in start menu to shut down the computer.
Follow the easy steps below.
- Go to Control Panel.
- Open up Power Options, and click Change Plan Settings.
- Click Change advanced power settings. Once you do that, you would get a windows as shown below.

- Double click Power Buttons and Lid and edit Start menu power button Shut Down.
With this, you would have got the tweak working. At least for me personally, such minor changes bother me all the time I use the computer – hacks are the only way around. Thanks Amit.
