This blog has not had a post for more than a week because I have been working hard to launch a new blog. Since I do not plan to make any significant money from the blog or forum, vBulletin is not an option for me. I have used bbPress (made by Automattic, who also make WordPress) before, and it is not yet powerful enough because it is still in its early days of development. From the suggestions that I received from my friends, I concur that phpBB is very powerful but also hard to deploy. Since this forum will be used for quite some time to come, I do not want to be in a situation where I regret the choice of forum software that I made. I'ved used both phpbb and smf for forums. I'ved zowel gebruikt phpbb en SMF voor forums. I think phpbb 3 is the better software. Ik denk dat phpBB 3 is de betere software. Since its newly released, there arent enough addons, but they will be coming. Sinds zijn onlangs vrijgegeven, is er genoeg Arent addons, maar ze zullen komen. phpBB is extremely powerful. phpBB is extreem krachtig. You get to tweak each and every part of it. Je krijgt te tweaken elk deel van uit. Customizations are endless!!! Aanpassingen zijn eindeloos!
It gives you ultimate power as an administrator and features an extensive feature-set, which you might be lost in!!! Het geeft je ultieme macht als beheerder en beschikt over een uitgebreide feature-set, die zou je kunnen verloren gaan!
So, if you want complete & efficient control of you forum and you are targeting a wider audience, go for phpBB Dus, als je wilt voltooien en efficiënte controle van je forum en je bent gericht op een breder publiek, ga voor phpBB
Else, if you dont plan to scale it up, SMF wins the case!! Else, als je niet van plan het opschalen, SMF wint de zaak!

@Aravind: Power is not so much an issue right now, but I want to go for a wider audience and have the forum running for quite some time. @ Aravind: Power is niet zozeer een probleem nu, maar ik wil gaan voor een breder publiek en het forum loopt al geruime tijd hebben. Scaling up is certainly required. Opschalen is zeker nodig. Thanks for the suggestion; will keep it in mind when I make the decision. Among the open-scripts one, I have used both phpBB3 and SMF. Onder de open-scripts een, heb ik gebruikt voor zowel phpBB3 en SMF. phpBB3 always takes the lead. phpBB3 neemt altijd de leiding. It has got more mods, themes etc. On the other hand, SMF doesn't give you much features as compared to phpBB3. Het heeft meer mods, thema's etc. Aan de andere kant, heeft SMF niet geven u veel functies in vergelijking met phpBB3.
As for paid ones, I love both the big daddies, IP Board and vBulletin. Zoals voor betaald degenen, ik hou van zowel de grote daddies, IP Bestuur en vBulletin. I have used both of them. Ik heb zowel gebruikt van hen. I like IP Board the best. Ik houd IP-raad de beste.

A bit confused over which of these two to use also. Een beetje in de war over welke van deze twee ook te gebruiken.
SMF looks nice but most recommends phpbb3 but I find the default look of smf nicer. SMF ziet er goed uit, maar de meeste raadt phpbb3 maar ik vind de standaard look van SMF mooier.
