Ubuntu 9.04, aka Jaunty Jackalope, is now available for download. Ubuntu 9.04 brings its default desktop environment GNOME to version 2.26. Jaunty also includes OpenOffice.org 3 productivity suite, which was missing in previous version due to lack of time for integration.
New in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope 9.04
Ubuntu 9.04 includes Linux kernel 2.6.28. This introduces the new Ext4 file system, successor to the previously used Ext3. Jaunty still uses Ext3 by default, with an option for Ext4.
Beta and RC testers have reported that Ubuntu 9.04 has improved auto-detection of display and graphics hardware, particularly multiple monitor setups and does not often require an xorg.conf configuration file.
Jaunty also brings a “Netbook Remix” version for the growing number of netbook users. See compatibility list of netbooks and issues they have (for example, Dell Mini 9 and Lenovo S10 works without any issues).
Though there are direct and BitTorrent download links, I would recommend using BitTorrent for the sake of servers’ health.
Once you download Ubuntu install file (a .iso) using links below, you would want to use an image burning software like the free ImgBurn to write the ISO file to disc.
