Windows XP provides an easy option to turn on/off hibernation. However, Vista provides no easy option to disable hibernation. If you are one of those (like me) who always prefer to keep the computer on shut down, then disabling hibernation might be for you. This will release hard disk space equal to the installed RAM of your computer.
There are two hacks to turn off hibernation in Windows Vista: using the command-line, and also using the Disk Cleanup utility (yes!).
Turn off hibernation by deleting hybernation file
All we need to do is use Disk Cleanup tool to delete the essential hiberfil.sys.

- Start Disk Cleanup (click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup).

- When asked to choose which files to clean up, select Files from all Users on this computer.
- Select Windows Vista boot drive (usually C:).
- When Disk Cleanup opens, tick “Hibernation File Cleaner”. Click OK.

If done correctly, hibernation would be disabled now. Do tell us in comments if you have any problems.
