Microsoft has announced that it is working to launch Windows 7 in 2009 (likely in mid-year). While hardware partners have been told of the launch, this is the first indication of the launch date by Microsoft to the public.
Microsoft has been hesitant in announcing the date, primarily because of the public outcry that will accompany any delay in launch date once it has been announced. Microsoft has also confirmed that a beta version will be shipped early 2009. Another crucial goal for Windows 7 is a sub-50 second boot up time. Many computers that were tested can already boot up faster – keep in mind that the current builds of Windows 7 are not even release candidates, and hence will be optimized a lot before launch.
