Install Reliance Net Connect Data Card on Windows Vista x64

Reliance Netconnect USB data card seems popular in India for users with laptops (and who typically need mobility). Although I didn’t belong to that group, I picked up a Net Connect card for lack of availability of any other decent internet options where I lived in the past. Installation was easy on Windows XP, but when I bought a copy of Windows Vista x64 (64 bit), Netconnect card refused to work. Apparently, all the device drivers and connectivity software bundled with Netconnect is for Vista 32 bit. The stupid techs at customer support didn’t help either.

Known issues with Vista x64 and Reliance Net connect

The dialer software provided by Reliance is known to crash frequently. However, internet will continue to work fine (I actually wondered why we even need the software; if there was a shortcut that could be dialled, it would help get rid of the dialer).
