How to install iPhone applications on iPod Touch

iPod Touch, or iTouch as it is sometimes called, is an iPod with a touch screen. Much of the iPhone functionality is present in iPod Touch, so it is only natural to assume that iPhone applications would work on iPod Touch.

Only it doesn’t.

At least not without any hacking. Installing iPhone applications on an iPod Touch requires you to jailbreak it and then follow the steps below. If you have not jailbroken iPod Touch already, here is a good guide for it.

Install iPhone applications on iPod Touch

  1. Open install.app (installer application) and tap Sources on the bottom menu.
  2. Under Sources, tap Edit and then Add.
  3. Type in http://applerepo.com or http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml under “Add source” field and click OK.
  4. Tap Done and then Refresh.
  5. Tap Install at the bottom of Installer. Scroll down to “iPhone Apps for iPod Touch” and “iPhone Apps for iPod Touch”. Tap appropriate folder for your iPod Touch firmware version.
  6. Go to the iPhone apps menu and install the Prep packages. This should be done before any other app installs.
  7. You can now install iPhone apps of your choice. After installing required iPhone programs, press the home button to reboot it.
