Update name, email and URL in Blog Comment Autofill Greasemonkey script

Blog Comment Autofill is a Greasemonkey script that pre-fills your comment details (name, email and URL) in blog comment fields. It currently supports WordPress and Movable Type, which constitute a large number of useful and comment-worthy blogs out there.

After installing the script, it asks you for your details once so that it can fill it up every time you load a blog page with a comment form. What if, you launch a new blog and need to promote it? There is no direct method to update it from options. This tutorial shows you how to use a simple and quick about:config hack, you can update the details at will.

  • Type about:config into the address bar and hit enter. Click OK to get through the warning and reach the about:config settings page.
  • Type “blog” (without quotes) to the field named “Filter”. A few entries by the name “GreasemonkeyScriptvals.bca/BlogCommentAutofill” will come up(screenshot below).
  • The three values that you may need to edit end with “.author”, “url” and “email”. Double-click on the value to get a popup box into which you can type the new details. Make sure to not edit any other setting.

Thanks – I was going to create a script like this. You saved me some time!

  • Keith Dsouza says:

You can do this much more easily without having to use about:config by right clicking on Greasemonkey icon and selecting Reset Prefill Comments from the User Scripts Commands menu :)

  • Sumesh says:

@Binny: Glad you found it useful.

@Keith: But then, you’d have to enter all three details again – with this method, you can edit precisely what you want and leave the other settings intact.

  • Keith Dsouza says:

@Sumesh Quite true, I agree with you on that point.

But several lay users may find the latter method useful since it does not involve editing something they are not comfortable with.

Thanks; that could save some time, but chrome and other such browsers pretty much auto fill-in anyway don’t they?
