GMail has previously had a plain-text loading screen which usually says “Loading” (and an option to use basic mode if you’re on a slow connection).
Google has silently rolled out an upgrade to the loading screen, which now sports a horizontal progress indicator, along with an option to switch to basic mode (which was earlier limited to when it took a long time to load).

The screen is as plain as ever, in typical Google fashion, with no background or fancy stuff – just a progress bar and some text. Check out the screenshot below to see what I mean.

Its a nice addition.
Actually, basic mode was always toggable. It was located at the wayy bottom of the page (it’s still there).
@Frank: When I said that basic mode was not toggle-able, I referred to it on the loading screen.
