Spybot used to be good 4-5 yrs back. Now its total trash and pretty much everything is better than spybot. Firewall : Comodo and Jetico both are excellent options. And Comodo's firewall is completely free to use, there isn't any a pro version. The 'Plus' version simple adds proactive virus and spyware scanning, which isn't a firewall's job by the way. Your comments on Norton anti-virus reflect the conventional wisdom echoed throughout the web that I've seen about its shortcomngs,drawbacks. Avast, Comdo Firewall, CCleaner have all provided excellent performance, protection, with an especially positive experience with Spybot-Search and Destroy. As far as Firefox is concerned, its reputation, track record speaks for itself. I can personally vouch for each and every one of the applications you’ve mentioned as excellent alternatives in their own right with the unbeatable advantage that they’re also freeware.
